Why Mechanical Keyboards?

I first learned how to use a computer when I was in elementary school. In middle school, I learned how to type. Since then, I don't think I've gone more than a week without using a computer. I don't think I'm alone in that, either.

But how much time do we really spend thinking about how using a computer feels?

Do you like the way that mouse feels in your hands? Is that keyboard comfortable, or mushy?

Is the monitor situated the way you want it to be, or is that just the easiest place for it to be?

Mechanical keyboards are special because we can closely and carefully customize the way we interact with our technology.

If you're like me, typing is a regular part of your life, your work, and your leisure.

But most keyboards are, frankly, pretty lousy, made of the cheapest available parts. They break or malfunction easily, and are infinitely replaceable.

The keys get greasy, they're hard to clean, and they just… suck.

Mechanical keyboards are different.

Mechanical keyboards use higher-quality components that feel better, sound better, and look better than standard keyboards.

A single mechanical keyboard switch is typically rated for millions of presses before it'll break down. Parts are replaceable and customizable. A custom mechanical keyboard can be can be whatever kind of experience you want it to be.

Whether you want soft or firm, quiet or loud, an ostentatious statement piece on your desk or something small, and minimal, and portable. There are ways to make it happen.

What's even cooler is how small, and intimate, the mechanical keyboard community is.

Most of our electronics are manufactured in massive amounts, built to the specifications of designers and corporate decision makers that you'll never talk to or meet.

Custom mechanical keyboards are mostly designed and built by enthusiasts. Small groups of passionate people who decide they love keyboards and want to work together to make the kinds of keyboards they like using.

A custom mechanical keyboard is a way to feel connected, to the technology that we use every day and to people building it.

The only problem is that it's a complicated hobby, with a lot to learn.

Most of the components are made in small batches, scattered across dozens of websites.

Putting keyboards together the right way takes a lot of specialized knowledge and the right set of tools. It's easy to get confused or lost. And like all small hobbies, it can be hard to find the people willing to help you get involved.

That's where we can help.

Keyboard Concierge is here to offer a way into mechanical keyboards. We have the skills. We have the tools. And we're really, really passionate about this.

Don't know how to get started? That's okay. We do.
